Advisory Community Outreach

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

The purpose of the Advisory Community Outreach Project is to involve students in their greater community through a variety of different projects.  The Project raises student awareness of issues in community through the student-led selection process conducted in each Academic Career Enrichment (ACE) class.  Every student is required to be enrolled in an ACE class at Freedom High School.  The goal of the Project is for students to examine an array of community needs, research and discuss the possibilities, and involve each student in the Project selection process.   The ultimate aim is to involve every student in a Project that is relevant and interesting to them.

PROJECT OUTCOMES:

The outcomes of the selection process for the Advisory Community Outreach Project yield a wide variety of community oriented project that reflect the diversity of Freedom High School’s student body.  Projects implemented by students at Freedom High School in past academic years include:

  • Thanksgiving food drive for the Roadrunner Food Bank in cooperation with the US Postal service;
  • Hat drive for children with cancer;
  • Planned a menu and collected and prepared a meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald house;
  • School-wide recycling project;
  • Collected money to buy a cow through the Heifer Project;
  • Collected used soccer gear for donation to low-income middle school students;
  • Used clothing drive for the StoreHouse;
  • Stuffed animal collections for Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home;
  • Creating information pink ribbon cards about breast cancer awareness.
